Kerry Announces Partnership to Commercialize Renaissance Acrylamide-Reducing-Yeast Technology

Naas, Ireland and Vancouver, Canada, December 5, 2018 – Kerry, the Taste & Nutrition company, has signed a license agreement with Renaissance BioScience Corp to supply Renaissance’s Acryleast, a non-GMO acrylamide-reducing yeast enzyme, to food and beverage manufacturers*, commencing in Q1 2019.

Acryleast is a natural, non-GMO yeast enzyme that reduces acrylamide by up to 90% in a range of food and beverage products, including biscuits, crackers,French fries, potato crisps, coffee, infant food and more. This clean label, effective and versatile solution has no or minimal changes to manufacturing processes and no impact on flavour, aroma and texture.

This license agreement is quite timely given new EU acrylamide regulations, which came into effect in April 2018, and California’s Proposition 65, which requires “potentially harmful” warning labels relating to acrylamide (on food and beverage packaging or in food outlets).
