Renaissance BioScience Corp. to receive R&D funding to advance its yeast-based RNAi biopesticide and biotherapeutics technology
Vancouver, Canada — May 26, 2020 — Renaissance BioScience Corp. (RBSC), a leading global bioengineering company, is pleased to announce that it will receive advisory services and a multi-year, non-repayable contribution of up to $493,625 from the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP). The funding will support the company’s ongoing cleantech R&D efforts for the advancement of its patent-pending, yeast-based RNAi production and delivery platform technology for use in biopesticides and biotherapeutics.
This precision RNAi technology, which has the potential for use across multiple applications including agriculture, aquaculture, and healthcare, makes use of bioengineered yeast to efficiently produce and deliver RNAi bioactive molecules to target organisms. Using yeast in this way enables RNAi to be effectively delivered to multiple insect and animal species in a rapid, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly manner that addresses a significant unmet need in global agriculture, while also positioning Canada at the forefront of an emerging, rapid-growth market.
“We are extremely pleased to receive advisory services and funding from NRC IRAP in support of our yeast-based RNAi production and delivery platform,” said Dr. Matthew Dahabieh, Chief Science Officer. “The assistance offered by NRC IRAP is an important catalyst for us to enhance the performance and functionality of our yeast-RNAi platform—it will enable us to take the next step in realizing the innovative potential of this technology in biopesticide and biotherapeutic applications. NRC IRAP has been an important supporter to date, and we thank them for their continued contribution to innovation.”
